Why I hate Big Union

Ok, to start off with, I'm not against unions in theory. For basic wage earning, workplace safety, and legal representation, I think union representation is a good thing.

But I think that it's an inherently bad thing when unions try to wring every little concession out of their employers; that leads the way towards racketeering, blackmail, and undue political influence. As a political instrument, unions are A Very Bad Thing Indeed.

And now we've got the new "message" from the AFL-CIO on the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.They support the memory of the fallen and the heroic efforts of first responders. That's good, but what follows isn't.
"But other doors opened, too—doors to hate, suspicion of “others” and self-centered greed. Our fear was twisted into something much more dangerous.....The extremist small government posse has turned them into public enemy No. 1, as though teachers and firefighters, EMTs and nurses and union construction workers ruined America’s economy....Wealthy CEOs, anti-government extremist front groups and frothing talk show hosts—from the Rush Limbaughs and Glenn Becks to the Koch brothers, Karl Rove’s American Crossroads group, Americans for Prosperity, the Club for Growth, FreedomWorks and the American Legislative Exchange Council—also pushed open the door to hate." (emphasis mine)

Congrats, AFL-CIO! You've successfully turned the anniversary of 9/11 into a clarion call against those you dislike! 9/11 is just a fucking prop to you, to shill your agenda of ad hominen invective at those who are your political opponents. Nevermind that your points against conservatives and libertarians have abso-fucking-lutely nothing to do with 9/11. Also, they're nothing BUT extremists to you. I've got a newsflash, Labor Unions: you represent maybe 10% of the entire American voting public. That's it. You don't get to bitch about who's extremist or not- your job is to convince Americans to support you. Not screech at the top of your lungs.

At the end of the day, there's a reason why Labor Unions are becoming more and more irrelevant. It's because they're more interested in advancing their political agenda and their culture of political violence (Yes, Jimmy Hoffa was in bed with the Mafia) than actually doing what unions can do. Not ranting against so-called extremists- when the real extremists were the ones who killed nearly 3,000 Americans on 9/11, and many others since then around the world. It's rather pathetic that you think the Koch Brothers are more eeeeeeeeeevil than Al Qaeda. What have they done, other than disagree with you? Nothing. Yes, Virginia: the AFL-CIO has just moralized that the Koch Brothers are worse than those who have killed tens of thousands across the world in the name of radical Islam, simply because they want a more limited government. This. Is. Pathetic.

On the even of the anniversary of 9/11, when I should be memorializing the fallen, remembering what it takes to keep America free in the face of real tyranny, and applauding the heroes, I am railing against AFL-CIO's pathetic attempts at upstaging the real issues with their desperate rhetoric. Grow the fuck up, Labor Unions. And Richard Trumka? Enjoy the next few months, because after November 2012 (I hope), America will reject your outdated jackassery, and it'll be a long time before humpty dumpty puts your Labor Unions back together again.
